Why Vinyl Sheet Piling

One of the most dynamic and important developments in the world of construction
and a key material in CMS inshore work, is Vinyl Sheet Piling.

The history of Sheet Piling begins with Tryggve Larssen,
a government building surveyor in Bremen, Germany,
who invented a sheet pile wall, made from rolled steel sections.

In 1902 the so-called ‘Larrsen Sheet Piles’ were used as a waterfront structure in Bremen and are still fully functional today.
By
1912, they were used in the construction of piers, oil terminals, waste storage facilities, bridges, houses, buildings, other construction sites and for the strengthening of pond banks.

Throughout the ensuing years, changes in materials, configurations and installation techniques have led to a vast range of sheet pile applications.

The generally available materials are
steel, vinyl, timber or concrete.

Timber piles, which have low bearing capacity.
They are liable to decay or deterioration by salt water,
or insects and are high in cost, when compared to vinyl.

Precast or prestressed concrete sheet piles must be properly reinforced to withstand handling, transportation and driving with heavy equipment.

They increase project cost through high wastage, are not suitable
for poorly drained soils and create heaving, lifting adjacent piles.
The foundations of adjacent structures are also likely to be affected, due to the excessive vibrations caused by driving.

Steel sheet piles, though having had stellar success in Bremen
and many other world locations, are victims of rust and endless maintenance.

Over 20 years ago, Vinyl Sheet Piles were created
to resolve these problems.  They have been used widely as seawalls, bulkheads, lake walls and water control structures, with the following advantages:

Vinyl sheet piles never rust and maintain their original appearance over time.  They have high durability and are resistant to ultra-violet rays, chemicals and water organisms. They also resist rodent and marine borer attacks and are not affected by salt water.

Being lighter than steel, Vinyl Sheet Piles are much less expensive
to produce, with lower transportation costs, easier to handle and cut
and can be used where steel, concrete and wood cannot be.

They are environment friendly and are manufactured
from recycled plastic.

They do not contain any harmful substances, which may leak into
the environment, therefore making Vinyl Sheet Piles ideal for a host
of environmentally sensitive projects.

With all of these benefits in mind, a large number of profile styles
and accessories are now available.

Our focus at CMS is on performance,
durability, cost and ease of use.

There are many choices in this ever evolving market.
Our relationship with the excellent quality produced by
Crane Materials International (CMI) has been rewarding.

CMI is the worldwide expert in the synthetic sheet piling, offering vinyl, composite and aluminum products as alternatives to steel, concrete and wood.

The company has the world’s largest vinyl sheet piling fabrication facility, specifically designed to incorporate new advancements in manufacturing technologies.  This practical knowledge base, has worked well with the innovative spirit of our company.

Composite sheet piling, made from fibre glass, in itself, brings
a new concept to the table.  When Vinyl ceases to provide
adequate strength, Composite Sheet Piling can compete
with the largest of steel sections.

CMS, as regional industry contractors, offer our services
and in depth knowledge of these high quality solutions,
for domestic or commercial projects, to make the change
to better technology.

In the areas of training, design modification and construction
CMS is making Vinyl and Composite Sheet Piling, a cost effective choice in the Caribbean.
