Coastal Marine Design Build

CMDB (Coastal), is a joint venture partnership between two regional firms, Smith Warner International and CMS, known for their ability to deliver cost effective, innovative and environmentally positive solutions in Coastal Engineering Design and Marine Construction across the Caribbean Region.

As an integral part of the CMS Group, COASTAL is strategically located in the Northern and Eastern Caribbean with Bases in the Turks and Caicos and
St. Lucia.

Coastal was specifically formed to give developers a one stop shop for turn key, fixed price coastal works. Projects are value engineered from very start through the partnership between design engineer and contractor.

This partnership allows us to incorporate the most innovative and cost effective solutions for any given project, wherever it is located.

Services

Beach Creation
In the Caribbean, beaches are central to tourism and our socio-economic well-being.

As natural as they may be, they often require enhancements to make them, wider, cleaner, and more resilient to storms and climate change.

Our enhancements to coastlines often include the addition of beaches to rocky shores where nature has removed or destroyed their perpetual beauty.

By studying the physical, chemical and biological environment, we can bring science and engineering together to create a newly sustainable environment with Greater resilience, while enhancing the ecosystem.

Coastal Protection
Our Changing Environment

Sea surface temperatures continue to rise with adverse effects and more frequent Category 4 and 5 hurricanes. Therefore, climate change projections are part of our design protocol.
These powerful storms have devastating impacts on infrastructure across the region.

We create custom solutions for coastal protection, engineered and built for long term resilience.

Choosing the most effective protection from erosion is key to long term environmental management.

Seawalls, Breakwaters, Groynes, revetments, ground improvement, piling and surface water management are used to reflect, refract and dissipate wave energy and reduce coastal erosion creating a new more sheltered environment in which we can re-nourish or build beaches and install coastal infrastructure.

We have designed and/or built structures throughout the region. This experience allows us to identify useful innovations and find solutions to even the most challenging coastal engineering problems, working within all environmental regulations and international design specifications and tolerances.

Our design-build philosophy is to build for function, form, sustainability and financial feasibility.

Jetties & Piers
From recreation, to international trade, jetties and piers are our gateways to the ocean.

We apply our innovative techniques to build cost-effective solutions on every scale – from Mega yacht docks to community fishing piers.

Our cadre of contemporary piling solutions offer flexibility and rapid response to a variety of development needs.

Experience, Technical expertise and a comprehensive list of equipment and resources, allows us to provide cost-effective, efficient and appropriate engineering proposals throughout the Caribbean.

Marine Sheet Piling
We specialise in Vinyl Sheet Pile installation to stabilise the land/sea interface, where their high resistance to corrosion and long life make an ideal solution to the very high rates of chemical and biological degradation that we experience in Caribbean waters.

Sand Supply & Nourishment
We supply the right sand for beach enhancement or new beach development.

The right grain size is critical for long-term beach stability, the right colour is important for marketing and the texture and feel can impact guest experience and turtle nesting.

We only supply the finest quality and most appropriate sand from locations that are licensed for export, from Guyana and the Bahamas.

Dredging
We dredge for beach sand, create access channels to marinas, provide maintenance to a canal or berthing areas and lay outfall and intake pipes to the sea.  We offer innovative dredging solutions, such as hydraulic or mechanical dredging for nearshore and onshore applications.

Projects

Emerald Point Groyne TCI

CMDB recently completed the Emerald Point groyne in Providenciales, TCI.  The 600ft long terminal groyne was constructed to prevent coastal erosion of beach assets.

Salacia House TCI

Salacia House, a beach front property in the Turks and Caicos Islands, required a revetment to reduce coastal erosion and enhanced beach access.

Sand and more for Glenconner Beach

Supply of sand for beach enhancement and concrete access road and jetty construction, for Glenconner Beach, Soufriere, St Lucia.

Blue Cay project – Turks & Caicos Islands
In 2017-2018, CMSCS and Smith Warner International of Jamaica, through their joint venture company, CMDB, undertook the water front construction and engineering works for the Blue Cay Project, Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands.
