CMS installs

all forms of steel, wood and fibreglass piles for marina and jetty projects, using our shallow-water crane barge which carries a variety of piling equipment.

We operate the “Piton Piler” a 50 ft. self-propelled shallow water barge, capable of carrying up to 30 tons of heavy equipment, crane, excavator etc. and most forms of piling equipment.

Completely rebuilt in 2014, the barge is a working platform for all types of marine piling.  CMS has constructed most of the new docks and jetties, boat lifts and sea defences in St Lucia, over the past
7 years, including those at The Landings Resort, Marigot Bay, Calabash Cove, Ti Kaye Village and the Pigeon Island National Park.

Pile Testing

CMS can provide dynamic and full scale static load testing for all kinds of piling according to ASTM D4945, D1143, D3689, D3966 or equivalents.

To stabilize land/water margins, where their high resistance to corrosion and long life make an ideal solution in Caribbean waters, where corrosion is rampant, due to the combination of high water temperatures and highly active marine organisms.

Pile testing gives peace of mind to engineers and developers allowing designs to be physically verified and if necessary adapted according to the site conditions.

We have developed portable testing drop hammers up to 2 tons and we have calibrated hydraulic rams and gauges for static load testing up to 150 tons, that we use to apply load through a modular reaction beam system that can either be independently piled or can use production piles to provide the reaction load required – a far cheaper and quicker alternative to traditional methods such as the Kentledge load test.

the installation of
Ductile Iron Piles

Also known as ‘DIP’, Ductile Iron Piles provide an economic solution for many building foundation, slope stabilization and bridge construction projects and can be dry driven or grouted.
DIP solutions are particularly appropriate in the Caribbean
where some or all of the following conditions apply:

Conventional reinforced concrete or steel piles are not manufactured and have to be imported, incurring high cost of materials, freight, handling, taxes and duties.
By contrast, DIP are low cost, easily transported and handled, quick to install and have comparable load-bearing characteristics to conventional piles.

There is low tolerance to the noise and vibration of conventional piling by drop-hammers, e.g. operating near hospitality areas, or close to sensitive machinery.
DIP installation is relatively quiet and generates minimal vibration.

Sites have poor accessibility.
DIP are installed using the hydraulics of an excavator boom to drive the piling hammer, so piles can be installed anywhere an excavator can go.

Sites have minimal facilities for material storage and handling.
DIP sections are shipped in 20ft containers and easily stored.
